#2044 – NEWBIE NERDZ FEAT. FREAKME – RUNNING

So the cool kids are saying Deep House is dead (again). We’re kinda glad really. Hopefully that means no more wannabe Djs making boring Hot Creations copycat tracks with slow-ass basslines that wouldn’t move our speaker cones never mind the dancefloor. And perhaps the labels that churned out that utterly unidentifiable elevator house music will (if they haven’t already) join the ranks of the 32% of releases that sell only 1 copy (amazing but true stat).

Obviously the industry cheesemeisters don’t give a monkeys about the cool kids and while radio is still playing Robin Schulz et al the Beatport Deep House chart will still have its upper regions filled with some new big tunes. But the cool kids won’t be there. Oh no, they’re in the Tech House chart now.

Anyway, all in all, we thought it was a great time to put out a deep house record…

And that’s because this isn’t any old deep house record. This is the new release from Italian producers Newbie Nerdz (collaborating this time with FreakMe). For the uninitiated, Kate Simko described their last release on Audiojack’s Gruuv label as “such an amazing song, full of emotion,” and said that when she played it at Panorama Bar in January, “it was like time stood still.”

Dillon Francis is also a fan. Their collaboration with Going Deeper, “Your World”, featured on his recent Annie Nightingale mix (half a million Soundcloud plays and counting!). As is Shadow Child who dropped their remix of Mia Dora’s Myth on his Rinse FM show this week.

But enough about them, on to the record. “Running” has everything we love about house music. Heavy beats, hooky vocals, warm bass and some wonky noises that make you go “ooh” on the dancefloor. “Strange Affection” is a deeper affair, upping the emotional content in the vocals and adding in some gloriously pretty sounds. Both we hope you’ll love.
